There will be a briefing for BDD.(Road show and actual BDD)

The people that required to come are: Excos, Community Members, Volunteers helping out for BDD (Road show and actual BDD)

Date: Next Wed (18th Nov 2009)

Time: 6pm

Venue: Theater of the Arts (TTA)

How do you Know if you are selected?
Answer: If you have sent in the e-mail with name, admin no, e-mail, school, date, and slot.

This is compulsory for those who will be helping out unless you have valid reason, as we would require to know what is going on during the actual Blood Donation Drive. We do need to confirm the date you have applied.
In addition to that, refreshments will be provided. Please confirm your attendance by 12th November 00 00 hrs (ASAP) by replying to NYP.CSC@gmail.com

P.S :This briefing for BDD will be considered as one shift for the attainment of 1 CCA pt (must attend entire shift). Attendance would be taken.

NYP Christmas CDs

Dear NYP CSC members,

We will be selling NYP Christmas CDs on 4 and 5 Nov 2009 from 09 00 to 17 00. We do need some volunteers to help us to sell and promote our very own NYP Christmas Songs (CD). We are selling these NYP Christmas CDs at $10 per disc. You can also take this opportunity to challenge yourself to do direct selling to other people especially to the teachers of Singapore, as there will be a teacher convention at the Auditorium. It’s an experience not to be missed!!!

10 people is needed in each shift
Date: 4 & 5 Nov 2009

Shift 1: 08 45 – 13 30
Shift 2: 13 15 – 17 00

Please do not be late, 1 CCA point will be awarded for every 3 shifts done. However it will still base on your performance!!. (Capped at 1 CCA point per volunteer)
1 Extra CCA point will be awarded for for day I/C (Need a very responsible person to take up this responsibility as money would come into the picture as well.)

**The shift can be combined with BDD (Blood Donation Drive) and the Road Show. This is provided that the individual have to let us know beforehand that he or she is unable to fufill 3 shifts in the event mention above. Cases that are made known to us late will not be entertained. Letter of Excuse will be provided, however please let us know 24 hours before hand.

Road Show & BDD (EVENT)

Dear NYP CSC volunteers,

You might have seen posters and banners around the school regarding the blood donation event last year.

The blood donation drive once again will be held in the school in the following months.
For this blood donation event, we are expecting over 600 donors over the course of 4 days (1st to 4th December). For such a large amount of people, we need a large pool of volunteers to play different roles run the event smoothly and to make sure donors and blood donation staffs are well taken care of.

Positions:

1) Roadshow helpers
2) Manning registration table
3) During the BDD:
Day I/Cs
Ushers
After donation care
Tending blood donation roadshow
Distribution of souvenirs
Being the Mascot
And others

Experienced volunteers are greatly valued, however first time volunteers are needed too. Training will be provided for the volunteers. Notification of the training will be sending out when the event is approaching.

Details of both events are as follows:

(1) Blood Donation Road Show
Location: Outside McDonald's
Date: 16-18 November, 23-25November
Time: 11am to 5pm

Expected Volunteers for each shifts: 6
Total Shifts for event: 6

There will be two shifts daily
Shift 1: 10am to 2pm
Shift 2: 2pm to Closing (6pm)
Total shifts for both events: 14 Shifts.
** Please report 10mins earlier for briefing, especially those who need to do set up also

(2) NYP Blood Donation Drive 2009 No.2
Location: Theatre for the Arts
Date: 1st December to 4th December
Time: 10:30am to 4:30pm

Expected Volunteers for each shift: 20
Total Shifts for event: 8

There will be two shifts for everyday.
Shift 1: 10am to 2.15pm
Shift 2: 2pm to 6.15pm (until all donors has complete)
Total shifts for both events: 14 Shifts.
** Please report 10mins earlier for briefing, especially those who need to do set up also

Mostly importantly, no matter what are your reasons for helping out in this coming blood donation event. CCA points will be awarded.
To reward the volunteers, 1 CCA point will be awarded for every 3 shifts done
(Capped at 1 cca point per volunteer).
1 Extra CCA point will be awarded for for day IC for the actual Blood Donation event itself. (Day I/C: The Whole day of the event, from the opening to Closing)

As with the previous blood donation experience, you will mostly likey get your requested shift. However, there are times when they are simply not enough volunteers to cover the positions. As such, please do note that we can provide valid excuse letter for your absents.
Please also do note that there will not be any discounts or early dismiss of duties during the shifts. It will be difficult to find replacement. Because of this, if there are absolutely early dismissal in your shifts, that particular shift will NOT be counted as a full shift. (Do request for a letter of absents from us if necessary.)

INTRODUCTION
NYP CSC will be organising a visit to Salvation Army for an orientation visit. Maximum of 5 volunteers per session will be required in this event. Members will be orientated to the Salvation Army branch located at Upp Serangoon Road and will help to process, classify and disaplay merchanidse items (e.g clothes, toys, computers, cd, etc)

OBJECTIVE
The event is to let NYP CSC members to understand the operation of handling goods donation in Salvation Army as well as understanding their job scopes for this organisation. This will also introduce new members to another area of volunteer works that they might be interested in.

The Salvation Army is a Christian Church that meets community needs without discrimination. It offers practical support and spiritual guidance to men, women and young people so they can live to their full potential.

Jemiyah children - H-two-O (Event)

Dear Members,

INTRODUCTION
NYP CSC will be organising a game party for 30 Jemiyah children aged from 12 to 16 for a school visit on 18th July 2009 Saturday, from 10am to 3pm. This would be done in conjunction with the H20 event. All the involving members will be required to interact with the Jemiyah children and bond with them as well. Members would be given the chance to engage with these children personally.

Calling for Volunteers

Dear Members,

This is Ranie here!

Okay. I have three volunteering projects on hand.

General information for the 3 projects:
Below listed are 3 projects that require volunteers to mentor children. The beneficiaries involve children aged ranging from 13 to 17. You will be handing children with parents in and out of jail or the drug rehab. (Do be more sensitive when talking to them in this area.)

1) Student Care Centre
Location: Yishun Branch (Within walking distance from Khatib MRT)
Commitment level: A Wednesday every month or every alternate Wednesdays(TBC) 3pm-6pm.
What is expected of you: To mingle with the children, to assist the programme in place. You will be given the opportunity to plan the programme subsequently too! :)

2) Telok Blangah Centre
Location: New branch at Telok Blangah Rise
Commitment level: Alternate Saturdays or every Saturday (TBC) 8am-1pm
What is expected of you: Mingle with the children, there will be an hour set aside for tutoring/homework. You are required to mainly to assist the programme.

3) Friends of Children
Location: Island wide as you will be paired with children individually.
Commitment level: VERY HIGH. 2 hours own time with your child per week. Bond of ONE YEAR.
What is expected of you: You will be paired with one child. This child would then be under your wing. Guide them through life as a big brother or sister. Being someone they can look up to.
As this is something huge, you will be put through 2 selection tests in order to participate in this programme.

I highly recommended you to do give it a try :) It is very meaningful! :)

You can volunteer for more than one project. But please do check your schedule before you reply. And we hope to see continuity. These children need our love! :)

Review of MINDS (Event)

Hi everyone (:

We just had an event yesterday with the MINDS.
It may be short but yet was a tiring day.

The Success of the event:

We really very impressive with all our volunteers as everyone were active themselves all around the school and trying to understand the condition of the trainees and the volunteers. We thought that all the volunteers will be scare of befriends with these MINDS.

We experienced the task of those MINDS volunteers’ jobs and their difficulties. Although I personally feel that we did not really put in enough afford to help them, however, I think we ready did our best. As we all know that helping other is always not an easy tasks and it is never an easy tasks.

The first thing, we were shock about was the age of the volunteers. Their age was ranging from secondary to 20 plus, almost all of them were teenager. We all were very impress with their spirit. They are willing to spend their weekends bonding together with the MINDS which I say that they are “rare” kinds of teenagers.

On the other hand, we also quite impress by all our volunteers especially, Grace and Tong with really put in their heart and soul, and really wanted to help them. Everyone was trying to participate every activity that was being held and get themselves bond together with them.

After this trip, we had change our ways of thinking and hopefully this help us to experience, learn and improve if we want to create another event like this.

Some personal thoughts and learning from the members:

[" I personally admired the volunteers, because those people have special needs and it is very tough to cater to all of their needs."

["Once you get to know them, you will realise they are just normal humans with feelings."

["I didn't waste my trip coming down here, its an valuable lesson.”

["We learned how to interact with them, how to be at the same level with them and how to have an enjoyable time with them."

["I interact with them and tried to be comfortable. I realised that they are not different from normal people at all. They are just people that needed empathy, means the touch of compassion."

Currently, there are not enough volunteers for MINDS and we seriously hope that some of you would make an effort to go down to one of the MINDS centre and help out . If you are really interested, talk to us. We felt that we should build a long term relationship with them.
We might also organize another same event too in the future.

Hi all,

NYP CSC is recruiting 20 volunteers for MINDS in Bktg for an orientation visit.

Note that only Maximum of 20 volunteers will be required in this event.

The scope of the event is to introduce members to the organisation structure of Minds Bktg following by some interaction lessons (such as games, art and crafts) they can participated in. The objectives are to allow NYP CSC members to understand the operation of Minds BKTG as well as interaction with needy with intellectual disability. This will also introduce new members to another area of volunteer works that they might be interested in.

A short brief introduction of MINDSMINDS MYG (Serving Persons with Intellectual Disability), formerly known as MINDS Youth Group (MYG) is the subsidiary voluntary wing of the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS). We are a community of people who volunteer weekly to interact with and teach life skills to persons with intellectual disability (IDs) or trainees as we call them.

Perpatis Home (event)

Date: 25 june 2009
Time: 8.30am to 12pm

Since we are rendering a service to others, it is therefore no late- comers are allowed.
830am to 840am will be the grace period.

Scope
The visit to Perpatis Home will be for an interaction cum cleaning session for the home. 50 volunteers will be required in this event with half of the members to assist in cleaning the backyard as requested by the home. The other group will be playing games (soccer and captain ball) with about 30 children aged between 7 to 16.

A brief background of perpatis home
A voluntary welfare organisation that has been providing social, educational and welfare services to the community since the early 70's. Over the years, PERTAPIS has grown and changed its outlook to adapt to a globalising city. It has ventured into new frontiers, like setting up social enterprises to be relevant to the current social issues. It is still exploring new horizons to provide wider opportunities in the arena of social services in Singapore.
Do note that we are expecting 50 volunteers so it will purely based on first come first serve basis. Any students who signed up and want to backup during last minute; have to prior notice by 3 days.

Up Coming Event

TDC Outing at Botanical Gardens

Hi everyone!

We had a joint event with MINDS just that day, 5th October. The participants were Intellectually Disabled (IDs) youths from Training Development Centres (TDCs), which is a part of MINDS.

We started out the day early at 8.30am at Botanical Gardens. The IDs were grouped together with some of their volunteers. The aim of the day's game was to find all the names of the trees and monuments that were assigned to them and take a picture as proof.

The groups started off and what about us? We settled down for Fantastic Four (the movie)! However, we decided to join them and the volunteers from NYP formed Team NYP!

So, in the end, we did not win the first prize, nor the second prize, nor the third. But we had fun, and we had a very good chance to interact with the IDs. Discrimination was never once in our minds, and this event opened our eyes to the world of the Intellectually Disabled.

We hope to be able to have more joint events in the future, and I sincerely hope that more students from NYP will be able to join us. (:
